Albuquerque, NM The University of New Mexico (7-3) womens basketball team doubled the score against Portland State as they dropped the Vikings to 4-5 on the year with an 82-41 victory.
Jordan Adams hit 10 points in the game, her last two coming from the line and with those two buckets she became only the ninth player in school history to score 1,000 points.
Adams had three field goals and was 4-5 from the free throw line in the victory. Adams needed only 10 points coming into this game.
Mandi Moore also helped secure the victory with her 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, all three statistics led all players. Moore also did not have a single turnover in the game.
The Lobos had to come from behind only once when Portland State scored the first bucket. UNM would then go up and would take an 18-point lead into the break, 40-22.
The second half wasnt any different as Portland State would only make eight field goals and could not get closer than 18 points early in the half.
Chelsea Grear also scored in double-figures with 13 points. The Lobos outshot and outrebounded the Vikings. UNM shot 44% from the field to PSUs 27% and the Lobos grabbed 49 rebounds to the Vikings 29. UNM forced PSU to turn the ball over 23 times, the most for a UNM opponent so far this year.
Portland State had only player score in double-figures as Sarah Hedgepeth had 10 points.
UNM will take on the New Mexico State Aggies on Tuesday in their second inter-state game of the year. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in The Pit.
