Texas would come out in the second half with guns blazing as it went up by 20 (51-31) with 18:10 left. UNMs bench scored 24 points in the game and helped the Lobos battle back and pull to within four (53-49) with 11:13 left. The Texas defense eventually wore the Lobos down as they pulled ahead and never looked back.
Melissa Forest scored a career-high 13 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds. Lauren McLeod, also coming off the bench, scored nine points and had two steals. Chelsea Grear and Jordam Adams were the only two startes who scored in double figures as they chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively. Grear was second on the team in rebounding with seven. Adams also had two blocks.
Texas had four players score in double figures. Texas outshot the Lobos 40% to 36% and outrebounded UNM 47-34. The Longhorns were on the leading end of most the statistics but not by much.
UNM continues its Texas swing as they head to San Antonio to take on Texas-San Antonio on Saturday at noon (MST).
