Vladimir Borombozin was named the Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following UNM’s 20-15 win at San Diego State last weekend. The senior from Hollywood, Fla. booted a pair of 37-yard field goals, the final one coming with 2:06 remaining to secure the victory against the Aztecs and extend his school record to 14 straight FGs made.

One of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, Borombozin is the most accurate kicker in school history, making 22 of 27 attempts (81%) throughout his career. He has made 17 of his last 18 tries and has not missed a field goal since November 4, 2000, when a 54-yard attempt against San Diego State fell inches short. Borbombozin is also perfect on PATs this year, connecting on 21 straight and 24 consecutive dating back to last year.

Along with kicking field goals, Borombozin has assumed the punting duties and performed solidly, averaging 38.7 yards on 59 punts.

Borombozin is the fourth Lobo player to earn conference POW honors this season. Jarrod Baxter was named an offensive POW, while Terrell Golden and Gary Davis earned the nod on the defensive side of the ball.
