The Cherry team consisting of Brittany Wolfgang, Molly McKinnon, Mandi Moore, Melissa Forest, Daja Adams and Lauren McLeod won the game easily 62-50.
The scrimmage consisted of two twenty minute halves followed by a ten-minute exhibition. McKinnon finished the game with 19 points and eight rebounds while Forest chipped in 18 points. For the Silver team, Cristal Garcia had 17 points and freshman Stephanie Shaw had eight rebounds and 10 assists.
The Lobos will hold another scrimmage next Friday night, October 26th at 6:00 pm. UNM will open up the 2001-02 season on October 31st in an exhibition game against the Houston Flight.game easily 62-50.

The program was started by former UNM head mens basketball coach Dave Bliss in 1992-93 after seeing how his youngest son became interested in reading at his elementary school. The program is administered by the UNM athletics marketing department, working closely with school staff and administrators, and is offered to all middle schools in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and surrounding school districts.Read with the Lobos is a reading-incentive program now at the end of its eighth year of operation. The goal of the program is to encourage children to read, and to reward them for their efforts with donations of tickets to Lobo athletics events, primarily football and women’s basketball. The program is divided into two sessions – Fall and Spring – for two reasons: one, to allow for modifications in the program, if necessary; and two, to allow prizes/incentives to be developed around both the fall and spring sports. Assemblies are held at many of the participating schools, which enables UNM student-athletes, staff and coaches to reach the community and bring the program directly into the schools. It also gives the student-athletes the opportunity to promote academics and athletics, and to show the students that it is possible to be successful in both their academic and athletic endeavors. Assemblies are a great vehicle for UNM student-athletes to relate their own personal stories of how they became intercollegiate athletes by studying hard, reading and caring about academics.
Participating students are given special bookmarks, which they use to write down the titles of books as they read them. When they have completed their bookmark, they can submit it to the UNM athletics marketong department for the appropriate prize. During the current session (Spring of 2002), a total of 19 middle schools are participating and over 8,000 bookmarks have been distributed. The program will end Nov. 21, at which time all prizes will be distributed and a determination made as to the top-10 readers throughout the participating schools. These top readers will be rewarded with “special” prizes, which may include an invitation to a Lobo basketball game for an on-court presentation.
COMCAST and Intel have been sponsors of the Read with the Lobos program for many years. COMCAST is particularly active in the program, contributing premium prizes for top readers and participating in school assemblies. Adams helped the Lobos put the game away early by scoring the team’s first seven points, sparking the Lobos to a 12-0 run. Denmark was held scoreless until a three-pointer by Anika Madsen at the 14:31 mark of the first half. Adams, a 6’3″ junior center, was 9 of 16 from the field.
