LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Mountain West Conference announced its 2001 preseason all-conference team as selected by members of the league’s media. The University of New Mexico placed three players on the team – defensive end Brian Johnson, cornerback Stephen Persley and placekicker Vladimir Borombozin.
Johnson, who was a first team all-conference selection last year, was a unanimous selection to the preseason team along with tight end Jose Ochoa (Colorado State). The 2001 team features 12 players that were first team all-conference last year. Persley was a second team all-conference selection last year.
