ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— After a career night by Nyah Wilson on Tuesday night to wrap up the regular season, the Lobo guard has been named the final Mountain West Player of the Week of the 2023-24 season, as announced by the conference on Thursday.

It is the second player of the week accolade for Wilson and comes after the Dallas, Texas native scored a career-high 33 points in UNM’s win at Fresno State, tying her career high with 11 made field goals to go with a career-high six assists, which was also a game high for both categories.

Wilson scored 21 points in the final two quarters with 10 points in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth while playing the entire 20 minutes, with FS only scoring eight points as a team in the final quarter and 19 points in the two quarters combined. In the final two quarters, she had 21 points, four assists and five rebounds, going 7-13 from the floor, 1-1 from 3 and 6-8 from the line.

In the third quarter she had six consecutive points as UNM made its comeback to pull within a point at 45-44 and later made two free throws that tied the game at 50. Further, Wilson assisted on the basket that tied the game at 46 and later on the basket to close the third that gave UNM a 52-50 lead.

Her impact continued in the fourth quarter as she directly scored or assisted on six consecutive Lobo baskets, starting with a three-pointer that pushed UNM’s lead to 57-50 and scored eight of the 15 points in the Lobos’ 15-5 run to start the final quarter. During that stretch, Wilson made a three-pointer, a free throw, assisted on a layup, made a layup, made another layup and assisted on a three-pointer that stretched UNM’s lead to 12 at 67-55. She closed the game with three free throws, giving UNM its largest lead of the game at 14.

Wilson’s selection marks the fifth player of the week nod for the Lobos, which was last done during the 2018-19 season.
