Lobos to Host Charity Exhibition Friday, Oct. 27

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Paul Weir and The University of New Mexico men’s basketball program have announced that the Lobos will host BYU in Dreamstyle Arena on Friday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. in an exciting exhibition matchup that will benefit the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston.

The exhibition game has been approved by the NCAA through the Legislative Relief Process which allows for schools to compete in an additional exhibition game given that the net proceeds are donated to a disaster relief charity.

“Finding a way to make this game happen is a blessing to so many people,” head coach Paul Weir said. “I am incredibly thankful to the NCAA, Coach Rose and those who helped at BYU, as well as everyone at UNM who has worked to make this happen. I hope this event is as special as we all intend it to be.”

Tickets for the game will go on-sale on Monday, Oct. 23 at 8:30 a.m. With the exception of student tickets, all tickets will be general admission and just $10 each. Tickets can be purchased online at UNMTickets.com or in person at the ticket office located at the Northeast corner of Dreamstyle Arena. Single-game suites will also be available for $500. Additional donation opportunities for disaster relief will be available inside Dreamstyle Arena during the game.

Student tickets for the special exhibition contest will be free.

“I want all students at UNM to feel welcome at all of our events,” Weir said. “We are working every day to make their game-day experience better and I hope they can come to enjoy our games as part of a true college experience.”

Current and contracted suite holders will have use of their suites for the contest. Season ticket holders who have already renewed for the 2017-18 season will be granted early admission into the building one hour prior to the general public with a paid $10 general admission ticket. Season ticket holders will also receive a voucher via email which will grant them free parking for the event.

In addition, the doors will be open from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for an exclusive autograph session with the Lobos for season ticket holders only. Doors will open at 6:30 for the general public.

“We want to make sure our season ticket holders feel special because they are such a critical part of our program’s success,” Weir said. “I hope this small gesture demonstrates our many thanks to their commitment to us.”

UNM and BYU have had a long-standing, exciting rivalry that fans and the community have recognized since the teams were members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The Lobos competed in the WAC from 1962-1999. The Cougars lead the series 76-55 with the teams’ last meeting occurring in the 2015-16 season in Honolulu, Hawaii.

New Mexico officially opens its 2017-18 season on Nov. 11 against Northern New Mexico at 7 p.m. at Dreamstyle Arena. Season tickets are on sale now and booths will be available at Dreamstyle Arena for fans who arrive early to Friday’s event to sign up. Season tickets can also be purchased by visiting UNMTickets.com/basketball-season, visiting the Dreamstyle Arena Ticket Office in person, or calling 505-925-LOBO (5626).
