Lobo WBB Adds Three to 2024-25 Roster
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobo women’s basketball program has added three to the 2024-25 roster, as announced by head coach Mike Bradbury and staff on Wednesday.
UNM is adding versatility in its newest signings with a forward/center in Clarissa Craig, a forward in Amhyia Moreland and a guard in Destinee Hooks, with Moreland and Craig both bringing several years of collegiate experience at San José State and Cincinnati, respectively.
“Thrilled to have these three join our program,” stated Bradbury. “They will provide size and athleticism in the front court, something we have not had for several years. Their ability to score around the basket as well as make threes will be a great asset.”
Clarissa Craig | 6-3 | F/C | Cincinnati, Ohio
Craig recently finished her junior year with the Bearcats, appearing in 21 games and averaged 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game while averaging 12.7 minutes per game.
In her most recent season, she finished in double figures in three games, twice against Big 12 opponents with 13 points at Oklahoma behind 5-7 shooting and again with 12 points at UCF that included 4-4 shooting from the floor. On the season, she shot 50.0% from the floor, twice going 4-4. Defensively, Craig recorded at least one steal in seven games with a season-high two steals against Texas, and recorded two blocks with one apiece against BYU and West Virginia.
Throughout her three years at UC, Craig played in 77 games with 18 starts, and averaged 15.2 minutes of playing time, 4.8 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game and recorded 25 steals and 22 blocks.
Of her 18 starts, 17 came during her sophomore season, which was also her most productive season with 20.6 minutes per game, 6.7 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game, 15 blocks and 11 steals. As a sophomore, she scored in double figures nine times with a season-high 16 points in the game at Temple, and registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against UIC. Of note, she led the team with 56.6 percent shooting from the field, which was a 16.8 percent increase from her freshman season
As a freshman, she appeared in 28 games with her first collegiate start coming against Tulsa, and scored 3.2 points per game with 1.5 rebounds per game and played in 11.8 minutes per game.
Destinee Hooks | 5-9 | G | Indianapolis, Indiana
Hooks comes to UNM from Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana, where she averaged 21.1 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 5.0 assists per game, 2.9 steals per game and 1.1 blocks per game as a freshman. Her points per game ranked sixth in the NJCAA, while she was 17th in assists per game and 28th in steals per game.
Hooks closed her freshman campaign recognized as the Freshman of the Year, Player of the Year and Region 24 Player of the Year, scoring in double figures 19 times with 11 games with 20-plus points and four games scoring 30-plus points.
A 2022 graduate of North Central High School, Hooks was named All-Marion County, IBCA Second Team All-State and All-MIC First Team and was named the Defensive Player of the Year her senior year.
Amhyia Moreland | 6-1 | F | Charlotte, North Carolina
No stranger to the Mountain West, Moreland spent the past two seasons at San José State after starting her collegiate career at Old Dominion.
In the 2023-24 season with the Spartans, she started in 25 games while playing in 30, and averaged 11.6 points per game, shooting 54.0% from the floor and 42.9% from behind the arc, and made a team-high 148 field goals and scored a team-high 347 points. She produced 20 double-digit games with a season-high 26 points against Bethesda on 13-17 shooting, and three double-doubles including against Fresno State and Colorado State.
Moreland also had her best season on the defensive end with 5.9 rebounds per game, 1.4 blocks per game and 0.8 steals per game, registering blocks in 23 games with three games with four blocks and 12 games with multiple blocks. Moreland led the team with 177 rebounds, leading the team in rebounds in 10 games and tied for the team high in another game.
Her sophomore season, she played in 30 games with 10 starts, averaging 5.3 points per game, 3.8 rebounds per game with double figures in four games.
During her collegiate career, Moreland has played in 79 games with 35 starts and averaged 6.7 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game, and was credited with 76 blocks and 52 steals.
