Lobos Finish Strong in Fort Collins

FINAL RESULTS | DAY-ONE RECAP

FORT COLLINS, COLO. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play on Tuesday at the Ram Masters Invitational at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Lobos finished the tournament in 8th place of the 19-team field, a jump from Monday’s 13th place finish.

UNM posted a 1-over 281 in the final round, the third-lowest score for a team on day-two, finishing the tournament with a 28-over 868.

The Lobos had three golfers score par or better in the third round, including Andre Garcia, Augustin Holé and Galven Green. Garcia (4-over, 214 total) and Holé (10-over, 220 total) both scored an even 70 for the round, while Green (5-over, 215 total) scored a 2-under 68, the best round for a Lobo in the tournament. Garcia and Green finished as UNM’s two lowest scorers followed by Sean Carlon, Holé and Sam Dickey. Carlon was 3-over for a score of 73 in round three and finished 10-over (220 total) while Dickey finished 5-over (75) in round three for a total of 16-over (226).

“We played better overall today and we were able to hang in there a bit better than we have all year,” head coach Glen Millican said. “We gave away some shots on the front-nine, but I thought we bounced back well. We also shot 4-under on the back-nine, which was encouraging because we struggled with it yesterday. Overall, the team was patient and we responded well to our mistakes.”

The tournament’s top-three remained unchanged from Monday with host Colorado State winning the Ram Masters Invitational for the fourth consecutive year, posting a team total of 17-under 823. The University of Missouri – Kansas City finished second with a team-total of 2-over 842 and Wyoming finished third with a 7-over 847.

The Lobos return home for their next tournament at home where they will host the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate. The tournament will be played on Friday, September 22 through Saturday, September 23 at the UNM Championship South Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Live stats will be available.
