Herrera, who started all 22 games for UNM last season, will look to lead the Lobos to their 13th NCAA postseason appearance in 17 seasons in 2017. The junior had a standout sophomore season and enjoyed a successful run with Team USA in the U-20 World Cup over the summer.

With the Lobos’ season opener on the horizon on Friday, August 25 at No. 11 Washington, No. 20 UNM just wrapped up preseason exhibition play. The Lobos collected a pair of 3-1 victories over Air Force and Colorado School of Mines before completing a 2-0 shutout over Grand Canyon on Saturday. Herrera notched three points during exhibition play, netting one goal while adding an assist.

Herrera was the only student-athlete from Conference USA to earn a spot on either of the teams that included first team, second team, third team and freshmen team designations.

In addition to the individual honor, Herrera and the rest of the Lobos have officially been ranked No. 19 in the preseason rankings by Top Drawer Soccer, the highest of any C-USA team. TDS selected Charlotte as No. 25 and season-opener opponent Washington as No. 18.

The Lobos will kick off the season on the road in Seattle vs Washington and Seattle before returning to Albuquerque to host their home opener against UNLV on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
