New Mexico Game Notes
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Lobos and the New Mexico State Aggies will face off on Tuesday night at Santa Ana Star Field in the third and final meeting of the season between the two teams. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. The game will be available on the Stadium courtesy Proview Networks, and the game will also be on ESPN Radio 101.7 The Team with Robert Portnoy on the call.
New Mexico, which started nine freshmen last week in Las Cruces, has had more games started by freshmen (210) than any other squad in the country, and UNM’s lineup should feature at least six freshmen on Tuesday. The Lobos are trying to avoid a season sweep at the hands of New Mexico State, which won the first meeting in Albuquerque 9-1 and then last week’s game 13-2.
The Lobos are coming off a 1-2 weekend series with San Diego State, winning 4-3 on Saturday but losing 11-5 on Friday and 7-3 on Sunday. New Mexico State swept Utah Valley State over the weekend in its final home games of the season.
UNM was eliminated from the Mountain West Tournament chase as only the top four teams qualify for the tournament. Gasser has been on fire over his last five appearances, going 1-1, throwing nine innings and allowing just six hits and one earned run. UNM is also 7-3 in his 10 starts this season.
