Lobos Give Back at St. Felipe de Neri School
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The outdoor “grass” (artificial as the old turf in the Astrodome) at St. Felipe de Neri Catholic School on Lomas in downtown Albuquerque is the activity place for the young elementary students who go to school there everyday. The amount of activity on it has never been more prodigious than on Wednesday however, when 16 Lobos took time out of their morning schedules to visit the school.

James Portilla, Siti Tamiavena, Dequez Irving, Cameron Thomas, Alexander “Moana” Vainakolo, Brandon Shook, A.J. Greeley, Dejohn Rogers, Jordan Flack, Trent Sellers, Kentrail Moran, Rhashaun Epting, Eric Beilman, Everett Powell, Jalin Burrell and Evahelotu Tohi spent the morning visiting from pre-K through the fifth grade.
Everett Powell read to the Pre-K class, who kindly offered him some of their juice boxes as it was indeed snack time. Powell’s reading became an exercise in well, exercise, as he had the kids act out his story, from spinning to hopping to twirling in place. For Sellers, Thomas and Greeley, they held a Q & A with some very inquisitive fifth graders, who asked all sort of questions from how old they were (all are 20), to favorite place for a cinnamon roll. Jalin Burrell was a popular reader, and the kids had a lot of fun trying to spell “Evahelotu”.
After the visits in the classroom, most of the classes moved outside, where after a quick game of football, several players played kickball with the kids, several played basketball, and some climbed on the jungle gym.
In the end, autographs were signed before a group picture and UNM’s 16 headed off to class for the day. They headed that way knowing they made a few new fans, and certainly made the day for many of those young students at St. Felipe de Neri.
Today we spent some more time in the community at St. Felipe de Neri Catholic School, reading to kids, playing math games and of course, some outdoor activities! Thanks for having us! #GoLobos pic.twitter.com/EKasarrcLg
