NORMAN, Okla. — University of New Mexico men’s golfer Andrej Bevins was named Honorable Mention PING All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday. It is the first such honor for Bevins.
Bevins earned his honor after leading the Lobos to the NCAA Championships in May. The Elk Grove, California, native logged eight top-15 finishes during the 2016-17 season, including co-titlist honors at the NCAA Regionals.
He finished his senior season with a 72.22 stroke average over 45 rounds, carding nine rounds at 70 or lower.
An All-Mountain West selection, Bevins also placed top-five at the 3M Augusta Invitational and The Maxwell Invitational to go along with his performance at the NCAA Regionals in West Lafayette, Indiana.
His NCAA Regional win was the third victory of his collegiate career.
Bevins is one of three Mountain West golfers to receive All-American honors, joining UNLV’s John Oda (First Team) and Shintaro Ban (Honorable Mention).
Bevins’ honor is the sixth All-American honor for the Lobos in the last six years. Gavin Green earned the distinction in 2013, 2014 and 2015, while James Erkenbeck (2013) and John Catlin (2012) were also honored.
Bevins is the 10th player to earn All-American honors during head coach Glen Millican’s 16-year tenure at New Mexico.
