LOGAN, UTAH — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team is heading to Logan, Utah after defeating the Broncos 4-1 on Friday evening.
The Lobos (9-10, 2-1 MW) take on the No. 39 Utah State Aggies (17-7, 3-0 MW) for the first time this season.
Last year, the Lobos met up with the Aggies twice – once at the Pacific Mountain Invitational and once during conference play. They swept Utah State 4-0 the first time at the Pacific Mountain Invitational. The second time, a hard battle was fought between the Lobos and the Aggies in Albuquerque. The Lobos were defeated 4-3.
Despite Aggie’s strength, New Mexico is looking forward to bringing battle to Logan. The team is coming off two wins over conference opponents Nevada and Boise State.
The No. 39 Aggies are coming off a nine streak win with their most recent wins over St. Mary’s on Thursday and both Weber State and Air Force on Friday. They lead the conference 3-0 with wins over San Diego State, UNLV and Air Force.
New Mexico’s Bart Van Leijsen and Dominic West lead the Lobos in doubles with a 9-5 overall record followed by Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Rodolfo Jauregui with a 7-5 overall record. Utah State’s Jonas Maier and Jack Swindells lead the Aggies with an 18-10 overall record followed by Samuel Serrano and Kai Wehnelt with a 17-8 overall record.
In singles, Hernandez-Tong will lead the Lobos, 17-9 overall, followed by Jauregui, 12-12 overall. For the Aggies, Swindells leads the Aggies, 23-12 overall, followed by Wehnelt, 23-14 overall.
