ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s tennis team will host its only Fall tournament, the Lobo Invitational, Friday through Sunday at both the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium and the Estes Tennis Center. Other teams in the four team event include New Mexico State, UTEP and Northern Arizona.
The Lobo Invitational will have each competitor or team playing in a doubles match in the morning with a singles match to follow. All of the doubles matches will take place at McKinnon, and then UNM’s singles matches will take place there as well, with the other two teams moving to the Estes Tennis Center. For the format, one team will play another in doubles, and then flip around and play a different team in singles. UNM will open Friday against NMSU in doubles and then UTEP in singles (although UTEP only has five players, meaning UNM’s Yue-Lin “Polly” Chen will play in the vacated flight six slot. The other singles pairing will consist of New Mexico State and Northern Arizona.
On Saturday, UNM will face off in doubles against UTEP (with a UNM vs. UNM matchup on court three) before playing against NAU in singles. On Sunday, the tournament wraps up with UNM vs. NAU in doubles and UNM vs. NMSU in singles.
