Dr. Sara Nottingham is an Associate Professor and Director of the Athletic Training Program at the University of New Mexico, and she joined UNM Athletics as the Faculty Athletic Representative in the fall of 2019.  As the FAR, Nottingham plays a vital role in the department in terms of eligibility and certification, and she serves as a liaison to many academic constituents on campus.

Nottingham completed her undergraduate degree at Chapman University, her Master’s Degree at the University of Oregon, and her Doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Nottingham conducts research on clinical education, faculty development, mentoring, and documentation practices in athletic training using primarily qualitative research methods.

She serves as Chair of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Education Advancement Committee, Co-Chair of the NATA Foundation Faculty Mentor program, and is a member of the NATA Executive Council for Education. She has worked clinically as an athletic trainer primarily in the NCAA Division I athletics setting, in addition to the collegiate intramurals, community college, and high school settings.
