PHOENIX, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team began play on Friday at the PING/ASU Invitational with the first round at the Papago Golf Course. The Lobos shot 21-ovrer during the opening round to end the day in 17th place amongst a field where every team is ranked in the Golfstat top 100.

Northwestern holds the first round lead at 6-under, as they were the only team to shoot under par on Friday. Baylor, Oregon and Mississippi State are all tied for second at 2-over.

Jenny Lertsadwattana had the low round of the day for the Lobos by shooting a 1-over 73. Lauren Lehigh shot 78, Maria Caparros Levin and Lisa-Marie Pagliano each shot 79, while Myah McDonald rounded out the lineup with an 80. Annie Saechueng, playing as an individual, also shot 80 on Friday.

“We were all over the place today and will need better course management tomorrow,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We couldn’t get it going on the first nine and then the wind picked up and we didn’t manage it well.”

The PING/ASU Invitational will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday at the Papago Golf Course.
