Men’s Golf Travels to California for Lamkin San Diego Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team returns to action this week as it travels to California for the Lamkin San Diego Classic. The event at the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club will be held Monday and Tuesday.

The tournament will consist of two rounds on Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.

The Lobos, ranked No. 61 nationally by Golfstat, are one of eight top-65 teams in the 15-team field. New Mexico is joined by No. 20 Colorado State, host No. 30 San Diego State, No. 34 Washington, No. 35 BYU, No. 54 California, No. 58 San Francisco and No. 63 San Diego. Denver, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, Nevada, Saint Mary’s, UCLA and Wyoming round out the field.

The Lobos are fielding a lineup of Albert Boneta, Bastien Amat, Brandon Shong, Matthew Watkins and Carson Herron. Alvaro Portillo is playing the event as an individual.

UNM has two top-two finishes in seven events this season, having won the Wolf Pack Classic in October in Reno and posting a runner-up finish when hosting the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in September.
