Monday Night Football Comes to ABQ! Lobo Spring Game is March 6 at 6 pm

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque and all of New Mexico love a lot of things, especially…

Lobo Athletics
Monday Night Football
Free Things

Well, UNM Athletics and Lobo Football are combining all of that into an awesome night of fun on Monday, March 6 as Lobo Football will host their annual Spring Showcase at University Stadium starting at 6 pm, with doors opening at 5 pm.

The Spring Showcase is free to the public (parking is also free), and it’s on the perfect day for fans to come out and enjoy Lobo Football and catch a look at all the new players on the 2023 squad that will be looking to return to a bowl game for the first time since 2016.

The event will be great for fans, as Robert Portnoy will be live on the field, interviewing players and coaches during the game at our Lobo Central Studios, located on the sidelines and broadcast on the video board.

A host of food trucks will be parking inside the stadium near the main west grandstand in the north corner for fans to enjoy food.   Regular UNM public address announcer Dylan Storm will be on hand to let fans know who are making all the plays on the field.

A commemorative one-time only Spring Football Poster will be handed out to fans while supplies last, and the team will host an autograph session on the field afterwards.

The 2023 season should be a great one for Lobo Football.  The team returns several stars from 2022 including a pair of Second Team All-Mountain West players in running back Christian Washington and punter Aaron Rodriguez.  The Lobos have an influx of new players and a new offensive staff under Danny Gonzales, headed up by Bryant Vincent, UNM’s new offensive coordinator.

Additionally, the Lobos are the only team in the nation with five straight Gatorade Players of the Year on the roster, all from New Mexico, and that doesn’t include local starters like Cleveland’s Dion Hunter and Manzano’s Andrew Erickson.

UNM’s home schedule is a good one, opening up with Tennessee Tech on September 9 and New Mexico State on September 16.  UNM will also host Hawai’i, UNLV, Utah State and San Jose State in Mountain West play.

Season tickets for the 2023 season will go on sale in mid-April.  Check out Lobo Football at GoLobos.com, and on social media @UNMLoboFB on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for more information.
