Lobos Cruise Past Tyler 4-0

by Frank Mercogliano

ABILENE, Texas — The New Mexico Lobos very quickly got back to their winning ways, taking a 4-0 victory over Tyler Junior College, UNM’s fourth shutout victory of the season, and giving them a 1-1 split on their three-match Texas swing.  The Lobos end the road trip with a neutral site match against Lamar on Sunday morning.  That match will also be in Abilene.

UNM set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches, all by identical 6-2 scores.  UNM went with its usual lineup of Leonie Hoppe and Katherine Jhang at No. 1, Maud Vandeputte and Hsuan Huang at No. 2 and Sarah O’Connor and Maria Sodre at No. 3, and the three tandems all finished in that exact order, one after the other.

From there, the top of the lineup took care of things.  Jhang won at No. 2 to make it 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sydney Stone.  Hoppe followed at No. 3 , reversing her scores for a 6-2, 6-4 win over Yeva Kramarova.  The clincher went to O’Connor at No. 1, who won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to finish it off, ending the match and halting the other three matches.
