by Frank Mercogliano

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — UNM made it a second straight 7-0 sweep, taking out Colorado College in another complete sweep in which it took all 15 sets, losing just 12 of the 102 games played.

The Lobos made quick work of doubles, winning two of the three by love scores.  At No. 2 doubles, Sarah O’Connor and Maria Sodre won 6-0 over Olivia Dicks and Lindsay Popeo while UNM’s No. 3 combo of Satoho Toriumi and Sofia Taborga won 6-0 over Gigi Jensen and Malia Rivera.  At No. 1, Maud Vandeputte and Hsuan Huang won 6-2 over Maddy Meister and Magdalena Gonzales.

It was more of the same in singles as UNM never allowed more than two total games to be lost in any flight.  Sodre was the only Lobo to win 6-0, 6-0, turning in her second straight perfect sweep, beating Jensen at No. 5 singles.  O’Connor, in her second match at No. 1, took a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Christina Heffron.

Katherine Jhang, Vandeputte and Huang all won by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores at Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles.  Toriumi won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 over Popeo to close out the match.

NOTES:  UNM’s only home non-conference match will take place at 1 pm on Friday against Montana State.
