CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Danny Gonzales, who will be heading into his fourth season at the helm of the Lobos as head football coach, has been elected as one of six new members to the Board of Trustees of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).  Gonzales joins Tulane head coach Willie Fritz, Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist, Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith, South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack, and McKendree head coach Mike Babcock

Returning members of the AFCA Board of Trustees include incoming president Todd Knight of Ouachita Baptist, first vice-president Jeff McMartin of Central (Iowa), second vice-president Bobby Hauck of Montana and third vice-president Jim Catanzaro of Lake Forest .

Also serving on the Board in 2023 are: Steve Ryan, Morningside; Neal Brown, West Virginia; Sam Pittman, Arkansas; James Franklin, Penn State; Dave Clawson, Wake Forest; Brian Bohannon, Kennesaw State; Mike MacIntyre, FIU; Bobby Kennedy, ex officio member and chairman of the Assistant Coaches Committee; Van Malone, Kansas State, ex officio member and chairman of the Minority Advancement Committee; Michael Christensen, Carson (Calif.)
