Donovan Dent Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week

by Steve Kirkland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Donovan Dent was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Dent was honored after the Lobos posted a 69-65 win at Saint Mary’s last week, snapping the Gaels’ school-record 23-game home win streak.

In the win over Saint Mary’s, Dent scored a career-high 13 points, including 11 in the second half as UNM held off SMC. He also had a career-high six rebounds in the contest, to go along with two assists, one steal and one block in a career-high 25 minutes.

It is the first Mountain West recognition of Dent’s career and the second weekly conference honor for a Lobo this season, as Morris Udeze was last week’s Mountain West Player of the Week.

The Lobos will have a pair of home games this week at The Pit, hosting Western New Mexico on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and UTSA on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
