Lobos to Host Northern Arizona on Friday

by Jacob Trasen

Albuquerque, N.M. – The University of New Mexico swimming and diving program is set to host Northern Arizona University on Friday for a non-conference dual meet. The meet will begin at 12pm in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Johnson Center. This will be the Lobos’ third home meet of the season and fourth non-conference dual.

The Lobos (2-2, 0-1 MW) won their previous two meets this season, beating both Colorado State, Pueblo and Western Colorado back on Oct. 21. Their double-dual victory over the ThunderWolves and Mountaineers gave them their first two wins of the season.

The Lumberjacks (3-0, 1-0 WAC) are coming off a 182-110 convincing victory against Idaho in their first conference meet of the season. Friday’s meet in Albuquerque will be their first away meet of the season.

Friday’s meet will be the 33rd time the Lobos have faced the Lumberjacks in the pool, with the series currently deadlocked at 16-16. The Lumberjacks won the previous matchup, beating the Lobos in the 2019-20 season. The teams have alternated wins and losses against each other since the 2016-17 season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:

The Lobos have now won seven of the team’s first eight relay events that they have participated in so far this season, including six straight dating back to day one of their dual meet in Wyoming on Oct. 13.

Sophomore Alex Robertson has won each of the first six diving events that New Mexico has competed in this season. She has also qualified for the NCAA Zone meet on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards.
