Vandeputte Falls In Messick Final
FT. COLLINS, Colo. — Maud Vandeputte advanced to the Messick B final, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Sarah Weekley of host Colorado State to highlight UNM’s play at the Messick, a tournament which saw UNM pick up several good results.
Vandeputte, a transfer from Christian Brothers, went 3-1 in the tournament, including a thrilling 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (10-8) semifinal win over Denver’s Caroline Driscoll to advance to the final. She was the only Lobo to earn her way into the finals. UNM had a pair of doubles pairings advnace to the semifinals as Vandeputte and Maria Sodre got to the semifinals of the Flight B bracket while Katherine Jhang and Hsuan Huang got to the semifinals of the Flight A bracket.
Sofia Taborga picked up three straight wins after dropping her first match to win the Flight C backdraw. Overall UNM went 13-12 in singles for the tournament and 5-7 in doubles.
