Lobos Net Eight Wins at Messick Invitational

FT. COLLINS, Colo. — The Lobos picked up eight wins, four in singles and four in doubles on the opening day of the Messick Invitational, hosted by Colorado State.

The Lobos put two doubles teams into the semifinals.  Maud Vandeputte and Maria Sodre defeated and Jade Brihante and Zeynep Ozturk of Utah State 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Flight B doubles bracket while Katherine Jhang and Hsuan Huang won 6-3 over Monique Burton and Lisa Kung of Utah State.  Jhang and Huang are onto the semifinals of the Flight A doubles bracket.

In singles, Jhang won 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 16 over Estella Jaeger of South Dakota to advance to take on Taylor Melville of Denver.  In flight B, Vandeputte won 6-1, 6-2 over Utah State’s Indya Nespor, and she will face Sonia Skovkareva of San Diego.  In the bottom half of the bracket in the round of 16, Huang took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nikol Dobrilova of Wyoming.  She will face Colorado State’s Sarah Weekley in the quarterfinals.

In the flight C round of 16, Satoho Toriumi won 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) over Weber State’s Jessica Hill to advance to the quarterfinals where she will battle with Ky Ecton of Colorado State 7-5, 6-0.
