Women’s Soccer Visits UC Riverside Sunday in Non-Conference Finale

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico women’s soccer team concludes a two-game road trip on Sunday with visit to UC Riverside. The Lobos and Highlanders will kick-off at 12:00 p.m. MT (11:00 a.m. PT) at the UCR Soccer Complex in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Lobos (2-2-2) are playing their final non-conference game of the season. UNM opened the trip on Thursday with a 2-0 victory at UC San Diego. Jadyn Edwards scored her conference-leading sixth goal of the season, while Zaria Katesigwa scored her first of the year. Alli Davis made four saves in goal to post her first career shutout for the Lobos.

The Highlanders (2-2-2) are coming off a 3-3 tie on Thursday at their cross-town rival, Cal Baptist. UCR has already played three Mountain West schools this season, going 1-1-1 in those games. The Highlanders defeated Nevada 3-2, lost 4-1 at Boise State and played a scoreless draw with Utah State.

New Mexico leads the all-time series 2-0-0. The Lobos swept both games of home-and-home series with UCR a decade ago, winning 2-1 in Albuquerque in 2011 and 1-0 in Riverside in 2012.

The Lobos will have 11 days off to prepare for their Mountain West opener on Sept. 22 at Wyoming.
