SIngle Game FB Tix On Sale Monday, Saturday's Scrimmage Showcases Big Plays

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Lobo football single game tickets for the 2022 season go on sale Monday monring online at golobos.com/SGT and in person starting at 8:30 am at the Lobo Ticket Office at The Pit, and if Saturday’s scrimmage was any indication, fans should be excited for the 2022 season.  Season tickets are also still on sale as well, and those are the best way to lock in seats for all the exciting 2022 action.

The scrimmage saw UNM’s No. defense open the 120-play scrimmage with a safety as Ray Leutele shot into the backfield on first down from the 1-yard line, hitting a,Lobo running back in the end zone.  That came after the No. 1 offense successfully got out of a first down situation at its own 1-yard line as CJ Montes hit Luke Wysong for a third down conversion.

The Lobo defense was solid all day, getting a late pick-six from Tate Zimmerman, and UNM’s No. 1 defense was flying around consistently making plays.

The Lobo offense did rush the ball effectively, but a couple of drops hurt the overall passing game numbers.  UNM also rested a few starters from the scrimmage, all of whom should go next week for the final scrimmage.

Luke Drzewiecki hit a pair of field goals including a 39-yarder, and Christian Washington barreled in from 11 yards out as he quickly showed he should be a force I  teaming up with Nate Jones in the backfield.

Jerrick Reed and Tavian Combs both looked in midseason form, and Cody Moon played like he had a twin on the field at times, as he seemed to be everywhere on the field.

All of it got a crowd of around 700 pretty excited for the 2022 season as head coach Danny Gonzales, Reed and Wysong address the crowd after everything was done.

The 2022 home schedule is a great one, with three games to open the season at home, all under the lights and away from the Albuquerque heat of the day.  UNM opens the season on Saturday, September 3 against Maine at 6 pm, and then hosts Boise State in a “Red Out” on September 9 in the conference opener.  For that Friday night game, all fans are asked to wear red as the Lobos will be dressed in head to toe in red uniforms, including the long awaited return of a Lobo red helmet, not seen in a game since the 1973 finale, nearly 50 years ago.

The Lobos finish the three-game opening homestand with a rivalry game hosting UTEP on September 17 at 6 pm.  UNM has a pair of October games, agianst Wyoming at 5 pm on October 8 and on Saturday, October 22 against Fresno State, with that game time TBA.  UNM ends the season on Friday, November 18 hosting San Diego State.

The best way to purchase tickets and receive them is online at golobos.com/SGT.  Tickets can be printed out using the print at home option, but the easiest way is to get tickets send right to your phone and stored in your Apple Wallet or phone device.

“Our fans have really taken to the ease of mobile ticketing, and it has helped streamline entrances into our facilities,” said Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez.  “Fans can still print at home if needed, but we have seen that used less frequently as mobile ticketing has become more of the norm, especially since COVID.”

Along with single-game ticket sales, fans and businesses can also pick up group tickets for various sections around University Stadium.
