TRINITY, Texas –– Two members of the New Mexico men’s golf team will compete this week in the 2021 Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship. The annual event features 80 amateur golfers, representing 20 nations, competing in teams of two men and two women per country.

UNM junior Albert Boneta will be competing for Spain, while sophomore Bastien Amat will be competing for France. The tournament features three rounds of play Thursday-Saturday, with an overall team (men and women), men’s team, women’s team, men’s individual and women’s individual titles to be awarded.

Boneta is coming off an individual title at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno last month, his second career collegiate championship. Amat has top-20 finishes in all three events for the Lobos this fall, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in Reno.

Play at Whispering Pines Golf Club, just north of Houston, begins Thursday and runs through Saturday. Coverage of the tournament will be live on GolfChannel.com and the NBC Sports app.
