Saquan Singleton Out Indefinitely

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – New Mexico senior guard Saquan Singleton is out indefinitely after being diagnosed with a heart abnormality discovered when returning from an illness. His condition will continue to be monitored by the UNM medical staff to determine when it is safe for him to return to the court.

The 6-6 native of the Bronx, N.Y. is the Lobos’ top returning scorer (8.0 ppg) and rebounder (4.5 rpg) and led the team with 75 assists last season. He started all 22 games in 2020-21 for New Mexico, scoring in double figures seven times, after transferring from Hutchinson Community College. Last year, Singleton became the first Lobo to have a double-figure rebound game and double-figure assist game in the same season since Darington Hobson in 2009-10.

The Lobos will host a public intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. Admission is free. UNM will host New Mexico Highlands in an exhibition on Nov. 5 at The Pit before opening the regular season on Nov. 10 by hosting Florida Atlantic. Tickets can be ordered online by visiting GoLobos.com/tickets.
