Men’s Golf Continues Play at Maui Jim Intercollegiate
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The New Mexico men’s golf team continued its season-opening tournament on Saturday with the second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at the Mirabel Golf Club. The Lobos shot 4-under on Saturday and are tied for 11th place at even par through 36 holes.
Sam Choi was the low Lobo for the second straight day, shooting a 3-under 67 to end the round at 5-under, T-13th on the individual leaderboard. Matthew Watkins also shot in red numbers on Saturday with a 2-under 68 to get back to 1-over for the tournament. Bastien Amat shot even par 70 for the second straight day while Carson Herron rounded out the scoring four with a 1-over round of 71. Albert Boneta rounded out the lineup with a 5-over 75, while Brandon Shong shot a 3-under 67 while competing as an individual.
“We definitely played better today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “We had some guys get going and gave ourselves a chance to shoot a great round. It was good to see the improvement from yesterday.”
Georgia Tech is the 36-hole leader at 34-under, followed by Clemson at 30-under and Auburn, Louisville and Washington at 15-under.
