Two Lobos Compete Tomorrow in U.S. Olympic Trials

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Current Lobo Abdirizak Ibrahim and former Lobo Courtney Frerichs will be competing tomorrow, Thursday, June 24, in the U.S. Olympic Trials. Ibrahim will compete in the first round of the 1500m at 7:04 p.m. MT, and Frerichs will compete in the final round of the 3000m Steeplechase at 9:47 p.m. MT.

There will be three heats overall in the men’s 1500m, and Ibrahim will compete in heat three. The top six from each heat and the next six fastest times overall will advance to the semifinal round tabbed to take place at 5:05 p.m. MT on Friday. There will be two heats in the semifinal round, where the top five runners from each heat and the next two fastest overall will advance to the final round on Sunday at 6:10 p.m. MT. Ibrahim currently holds a personal best time of 3:37.19 in the event.

Frerichs will compete in the final round of the 3000m Steeplechase, where the top three athletes advance to the Olympics in Tokyo. Frerichs qualified for the final round of the event after finishing in fifth place of the first round last Sunday with a time of 9:27.75. Frerichs currently holds the American and North American (NACAC) records in the steeplechase and the No. 6 mark all-time with a time of 9:00.85.
