Castillo Named to 2021 Central-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kyler Castillo of the University of New Mexico baseball team has been named to the 2021 Central-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team, as announced Wednesday. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association, and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee, which is chaired by Tommy Raffo of Arkansas State University.
Kyler Castillo was a force for the Lobos this past season. A native of Midlothian, Texas, Castillo led the Lobos with a .439 (72-for-164) average with 40 runs scored, 16 doubles, seven home runs, and 40 RBIs. He finished the season with a fourth-best average in the Nation. He slugged at a clip of .665 and posted an on-base percentage of .486. The senior finished the season with a 15-game hit streak, 12 of those being multi-hit games.
In MW-only action, Castillo hit a Mountain West-leading .462 (49-for-106) over 25 games with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, five home runs, and 32 RBIs. Castillo’s MW slugging percentage was .689, and his on-base percentage checked in at .525. His on-base percentage was second-best in the league through conference play.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. It’s over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
