Women's Golf Back in Action Friday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is set to embark on its fifth tournament of the season on Friday as the team heads to Tempe, Ariz. for the PING/ASU Invitational.

The field is set to consist of 15 teams including six top-25 squads in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, led by No. 4 Baylor. Also ranked in the top-25 are No. 8 Arizona State, No. 15 Michigan, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 21 Arizona and No. 23 Oregon. Two teams are also ranked in the top 35 in No. 32 UCLA and No. 34 Stanford.

The Lobos will also be joined in the field by California, Cal Poly, Denver, Oregon State, San José State and Washington State.

New Mexico enters the competition coming off of an eighth-place finish at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, however UNM has posted a pair of top-5 finishes on the season.

Sophomore Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana has led the Lobos in all four tournaments so far in 2021 with her best finish (4th) coming in UNM’s opening tournament of the season, the Lamkin Invitational.

Lertsadwattana leads New Mexico with a 74.00 stoke average.

The Lobo lineup for the weekend’s competition is set to include Lertsadwattana, senior Caroline Jansson, redshirt-senior Reva Morris, freshman Myah McDonald and sophomore Lauren Lehigh.

Lertsadwattana boasts the Lobos’ lowest round so far this season (70), but she is followed by Lehigh and Morris who each carded a 71 at the Rebel Beach Invitational in February. Freshman Myah McDonald is also having a solid season with her low round of 72, which she posted at the Bruin Wave Invitational earlier in March.

The freshman is one of just two Lobos to have had all of her rounds counted in the team score so far this season.

The PING/ASU Invitational field also includes three golfers ranked in the top-10 nationally to go along with 22 of the top 100, including UNM’s Lertsadwattana (#90).

The Lobos are set to tee off at 8:45 a.m. PT (9:45 a.m. MT) on hole 10. Fans will be able to follow live via GolfStat.
