Maluach Named to All-Mountain West Third Team

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Senior Makuach Maluach of The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team will complete his career a highly-decorated Lobo as he added another accolade to his list on Tuesday, All-Mountain West Third Team member. This marks the first time Maluach has been named to an All-Mountain West team with the exception of earning MW Academic honors previously.

Nearing the end of his collegiate career, Maluach ranks 17th all-time in UNM program history in scoring as he has amassed 1,292 career points. He passed a total of 18 former Lobo greats that were members of the 1,000 point club this season.

Maluach has started 77 straight games. In his career, he has played in 120 games, starting 97, for a total of 3,052 minutes. He has averaged over 25 minutes per game and shot 46.1 percent from the floor (455/1008) and 34.1 percent from 3-point range (125-367).

He enters the 2021 Air Force Reserve MW Tournament with 475 rebounds, just 25 away from 500. If he reaches 500, he will be one of just 18 players in Lobo history to join the 1,000-point, 500-rebound club.

This season alone, Maluach has scored in double figures in all but four games for a total of 17 games scoring 10 or more points this year. He has accumulated seven 20+ point games on the season and also registered his first career 30-point game on Feb. 19 against Wyoming.

He has scored over 20 points in the last four games and averages 30.6 minutes, 15.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on the season.

Maluach and the rest of the Lobos are set to take on Fresno State on Wednesday, March 10 in the first round of the conference tournament in Las Vegas.
