Women’s Soccer Adds Another Athlete for 2021-22

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team has added a dynamic defensive asset to its 2021-22 roster with the signing of Emma Becerra.

The defender out of Corona, Calif., will be starting her collegiate soccer career at UNM. Becerra attends Santiago High School in Corona, Calif., and she led her team to a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 1 Championship in the 2019 season.

At the club level, Becerra has been with the San Diego Surf since 2018, most recently on the U-18/19 squad. In her time with San Diego Surf, she has started in 36 of her last 37 games.

“I chose UNM because of the amazing coaching staff, competitive atmosphere, and positive team culture within the program, along with the academic opportunities that UNM has to offer." Emma Becerra

As an honor roll student at Santiago High, Becerra will bring a valuable addition to the women’s soccer team and the University.
