J.J. Buck Selected for Lobo Women's Basketball Play-by-Play

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M— When The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team starts the 2020-21 season on Friday against Midwestern State, there will be a new, yet familiar voice on the radio.

J.J. Buck, who currently serves as the co-host of “The Opening Drive” on 95.9 FM and AM-610 The Sports Animal in Albuquerque, will be the play-by-play announcer for Lobo women’s basketball as announced by Playfly.

“As someone who was born and raised in New Mexico and graduated from The University of New Mexico, I know how special Lobo women’s basketball is to the community,” Buck stated. “It’s a dream come true to help bring the game to life for fans and be a part of Lobo basketball.”

With over 10 years of radio experience, Buck has a history of calling New Mexico high school and collegiate games, including Lobo women’s soccer.

“We are thrilled to have J.J. Buck be the play-by-play announcer for Lobo women’s basketball,” Lobo Sports Properties General Manager Joseph Mullings stated. “If you know J.J., he is the kind of person who preps like no other and is perfectly suited to bring Lobo basketball to our fans on the radio.”

Mullings noted his professionalism and attention to detail, and that Lobo fans can expect that his passion, enthusiasm and excitement for Lobo Athletics will be conveyed through Lobo basketball games.

A Lobo alum who graduated from UNM with a bachelor’s degree in communication and journalism, Buck joins veteran Nikki Heckroth-Lobato, who has been the color analyst for Lobo basketball the last 12 years.
