New Mexico’s Home Opener Relocated to San José

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The University of New Mexico’s home opener with San José State will be moved from Albuquerque’s University Stadium to CEFCU Stadium San José State’s home stadium.  The announcement was made by the Mountain West and the two universities due to the current prevalence of COVID-19 in Bernalillo County and State public health orders.

Game time will be at 4:00 p.m. (PT)/5:00 p.m. (MT). FS1 will provide live television coverage from San José State’s home stadium.

“We are thankful to everyone that worked behind the scenes to give our team an opportunity to compete,” said head coach Danny Gonzales, who will be making his head coaching debut for his alma mater on Saturday.  “We are excited to take the field and represent this city and this state, and we hope all of New Mexico watches on Saturday.”

Spectators will not be allowed at CEFCU Stadium for the game and tailgating on university grounds will not be permitted.

The Spartans opened the season with a 17-6 win over Air Force in a Mountain West game. New Mexico has a 0-0 record as the Lobos’ game on October 24 at Colorado State was canceled.
