2020-21 Women's Basketball Conference Schedule Announced

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West has officially announced the conference schedule for the 2020-21 season, the league announced Friday, subject to approval from state, county and local officials. Each Mountain West institution will play nine home games and make nine road trips during the conference season. This is the eighth year that the MW has utilized the 18-game format.

OFFICIAL MOUNTAIN WEST RELEASE

The Lobos will start conference competition on Dec. 31 with a pair of road contests, at UNLV on Dec. 31 and at San Diego State on Jan. 2. The Lobos will return home for one game on Jan. 6 against Colorado State before heading out to Boise State on Jan. 9, making three of the first four league games on the road for the Lobos.

With 11 teams in the Mountain West, each team will play eight opponents twice, and two opponents just once throughout the conference schedule. Last season, the Lobos faced Colorado State and Utah State just once. In 2020-21, UNM will take on Air Force just once at home on Feb. 3 and Nevada in Reno on Feb. 17.

Each MW team also has two scheduled bye dates. The Lobos are scheduled to have byes on Jan. 23 and Feb. 6.

Recent Mountain West schedules have been “mirrored” schedules, meaning that the men’s teams and the women’s teams play the same opponent in the same week. This year’s schedule does not reflect the mirrored format, therefore the men’s teams and women’s teams will have different teams that they each play only once. Bye dates for both the men’s and the women’s teams are another difference in the conference scheduling for the 2020-21 season.

Additionally, the conference announced the format and game times for the 2020 MW Women’s Basketball Championship. The 10-game tournament is set to begin Sunday, March 7 with three first-round games. The women’s quarterfinals are set for Monday, March 8 with semifinal play on Tuesday, March 9. The tournament will conclude with the women’s championship game on Wednesday, March 10.

Updated information on the upcoming season will be provided as more details are made available. All dates are currently subject to change and any details on stadium capacity will depend on health orders in place.
