About the Game
Top-ranked and undefeated Arizona came into The Pit for an ESPN late-night matchup to tip-off the New Year and provided the greatest upset in school history. Behind an unconscious Jimmy Rogers, UNM bolted out to a 25-9 lead 10 minutes into the game. The Wildcats, led by All-Americans Sean Elliott and Steve Kerr, who combined for 38 points on the night, clawed back and cut the lead to two, 61-59, with under two minutes remaining. Arizona had a chance to win the game in the final seconds when Elliot was open for a 3-pointer, but Hunter Greene blocked the shot, thus securing the upset. Rogers had 15, while Darrell McGee outplayed Kerr with 13 points and 5 assists.

On the Air: About Greene
Hunter Greene currently serves alongside the Voice of the Lobos, Robert Portnoy, on the radio for every Lobo men’s basketball contest. Prior to his time on the radio waves, Greene was a standout Lobo, finishing as the only Lobo to ever surpass 1,500 points, 600 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals. He finished his career in 1988 for UNM with 1,745 points making him eighth in program history in points scored. He finished second on the all-time steals list with 203 while holding UNM’s single-season steal mark with 84 in 1986-87. He racked up 740 points his junior year which marks the second-most in school history for one season and racked up a career-high 32 points on two occasions that season.
