#BestOfThe2000s: D'Angelo Ross

@UNMLoboFB on Twitter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — D’Angelo Ross was a persistent corner for the 2017-18 Lobos, and while those teams lacked success on the field, it had nothing to do with the power packed Ross.  His persistence paid off again, as after coming in second three straight times, he topped the charts and was voted as the fourth defensive back on the UNM Lobo Football #BestOfThe2000s team.  He becomes the 28th member of the squad, and there are now just two spots left.

Ross picked up 46.6% of the vote to top Gabriel Fulbright at 29.3%.  Daniel Henry was third and Stephen Persley fourth to round out the voting in this round.

The series is a way to engage Lobo fans with the current situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ross was a stubborn corner that had 17 pass breakups in just two seasons as teams learned quickly to avoid him at all costs.  Ross’ 11 PBUs in his 2017 season led the team and are tied for the most by a Lobo since Glover Quin recorded 12 in 2006.  Ross was ultimately hurt by UNM’s lack of success on the field as far as awards went, but the two-time Mountain West All-Academic selection got the eyes of professional scouts and coaches, in particular Bill Belichick.  Ross was signed as an undrafted free agent and spent the 2019 season with the New England Patriots on injured reserve.
