Lobos Conclude Day One at Gunrock Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished day one of the Gunrock Invitational at the Del Paso Country Club hosted by UC Davis on Monday. The top finisher for the Lobos was freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana who tied for 13­th overall in a field of 72 competitors while the Lobos finished the first two rounds in eighth as a squad.

Lertsadwattana led the Lobos in both rounds finishing four-over par (76) in round one before completing round two with a 78 (+6). She finished the day with a two-round total of 154 (+10) for her 13th place in the field. She also finished with 26 pars on the day tied for fourth in the category.

Freshman Lauren Lehigh was the second Lobo on the leaderboard. Lehigh tied for 38th overall in the field of 72 with an 80 (+8) and a 81 (+11) in rounds one and two, respectively. She completed day one with a final score of 161 (+17).

Finishing third for the Lobos was junior Caroline Jansson who tied for 46th overall. Jansson posted a six-stroke improvement in round two with a score of 79 (+7) after carding a score of 85 (+13) in round one for her two-round total of 164 (+20).

Junior Serena Chon and sophomore Kamie Hamada and rounded out the competition for the Lobos through day one. Chon finished round one with an 81 (+9) and registered the Lobos first hole-in-one of the season on the par-3, hole number two. She finished round two with a 85 (+13) to finish with a two-round total of 166 (+22). Hamada finished day one with a score of 169 (+25) after finishing rounds one and two with an 83 (+11) and a 86 (+14), respectively.

As a team, the Lobos finished day one in eighth place with a two-round score of 643 (+67), 13 strokes behind first-place Cal. Sacramento State is in second with a 609 (+33) followed by Wisconsin with a score of 614 (+38). UNM finished just nine strokes behind fellow Mountain West competitor Nevada which sits seventh with a score of 634 (+58).

The Lobos are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 3 with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT/9:30 a.m. MT for the final round of the Gunrock Invitational.
