CSCAA RELEASE

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) has named The University of New Mexico women’s swimming and diving team to its Scholar All-America team for the Spring 2019 semester as released by the association on Tuesday.

UNM earns the honor after carrying a team GPA of 3.72 and was one of 480 institutions named to the list, highlighted by the Lobos.

“Coach Tierney-Walker is one of my mentors and this is a reason why – she continues to build champions in and out of the water,” said CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart.

Of the 184 schools selected on the women’s side for Division I, the Lobos only trail Indiana State’s GPA of 3.75 and Stanford’s 3.73, while tied with Northeastern. The median GPA among the women’s teams was 3.45.

It is also the first time that New Mexico has made the list since Spring 2017.

The team’s latest academic accolade comes after earning a 3.76 GPA in the Fall term, which was the highest GPA in the history of the swimming and diving program.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the first organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
