Women's Golf Completes WSU Cougar Cup Tuesday

PULLMAN, Wash. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished 11th in the two-day, three-round WSU Cougar Cup on Tuesday. Junior Caroline Jansson led the Lobos through all three rounds of competition finishing even with a final score of 216.

Jansson finished the tournament tied for 20th overall, improving by a stroke in each round. She registered a 73 (+1) in round one and a 72 (E) in round two before closing round three with her best performance of the tournament at one under, 71. She also finished tied for fourth in par-4 scoring with an average of 3.88 (-3).

Freshman Alice Rindestig finished second for the Lobos, concluding the Cougar Cup with a seven-stroke improvement between rounds two and three to register a 68 (-4) in the final round. Four under par marks the freshman’s lowest round thus far as a Lobo, tied for best Lobo round so far this season with fellow freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana who posted a 68 in round one of the 2019 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.

Rindestig tied for 33rd overall with a final score of 219 (+3) across the three rounds of competition.

Finishing third for the Lobos, 47th overall, was freshman Lauren Lehigh with a final score of 223 (+7). She posted scores of 78 (+6) and 72 (E) in rounds one and two before finishing round three one over with 73 strokes.

Rounding out the Lobo squad was junior Tiana Cruz, who finished tied for 51st overall with a final score of 224 (+8), and Lertsadwattana who finished 13 over with a final total of 229.

Oregon State took first with a final score of 844 (-20) over three rounds of competition, followed by Oregon (852, -12) in second. Denver and Washington tied for third (854, -10).

UNM finished round three two under, shooting its tournament-best 286, to complete the Cougar Cup with a final score of 876 (+12). The Lobos finished just four strokes behind Pepperdine (872, +8), which outpaced UNM by 28 strokes in their last meeting, and 35 strokes ahead of fellow Mountain West competitor Colorado State (911, +47).

The Lobos will be back in action for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by Texas on Saturday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 13 in Austin, Texas.
