Jansson, Lertsadwattana Tie for 14th to Lead Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team wrapped up the 2019 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Tuesday at the UNM Championship Golf Course. Junior Caroline Jansson and freshman Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana led the Lobos through the final round, finishing with a three-round score of 217 (+1) to tie for 14th overall.

Jansson posted scores of 70 and 76 in rounds one and two, respectively, before registering a 71 in round three to finish one over for the competition. She also finished with 38 pars on the tournament, just three away from the tournament leader, and seventh overall in par 3 scoring with an average of 2.92 (-7).

In her first tournament as a Lobo, Lertsadwattana registered an impressive score of 68 (-4) in round one and followed it up with a 79 in round two before finishing two under, 70, in round three for her final score. In addition to her nine-stroke improvement between rounds two and three, she also finished fifth in par 4 scoring with an average of 3.93 (-2). Lertsadwattana competed as an individual.
 
Junior Tiana Cruz finished third for the Lobos in the individual standings, 38th overall, and second for UNM in team scoring. She registered a 70 in round one and an 80 in round two before shaving off seven strokes in round three (73, +1) for a final score of 223 (+7). 
 
Following Jansson and Cruz in the team standings were sophomore Kamie Hamada and freshman Lauren Lehigh who each finished tied for 45th with a score of 225 (+9). Lehigh posted a 76 in round one before a one under, 71, in round two. She finished round three with a score of 78.

Junior transfer Serena Chon rounded out the team standings with her final score of 229 (+13) for 66th place overall.

In addition to Lertsadwattana, two more Lobos competed as individuals including freshmen Alice Rindestig and Chloé Lauer. Rindestig tied Hamada and Lehigh in 45th (225, +9), while Lauer finished her first outing as a Lobo with a final score of 230 (+14).

The Lobos finished ninth among the tough field that included a pair of 2019 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship participants Kent State and Indiana as well as four Mountain West squads. UNM finished with a score of 883 (+19). Kent State took the top spot with a three-day total of 848 (-16), followed by Pepperdine (855, -9) and Iowa State (862, -2). 
 
The Lobos are set to return to action on Sept. 16-17 at the Cougar Cup at Washington State University.
