Lobos battle in second half but lose 2-1 at Washington
SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team concluded their play in the annual Husky Invitational on Sunday afternoon as they took on the hosts, University of Washington. An 2-0 deficit through the first half proved to be too much to overcome, but a valiant effort in the second half by UNM brought the game its final of 2-1.
The lone goal scored by the Lobos (1-2-0) came in the 62nd minute and was finished by junior forward Leilani Baker. On that play, the Lobos forced a turnover around their defensive midfield line. With possession and numbers, the Lobos pressed forward on attack.

Jaedyn Edwards, who came away with ball on the Huskies turnover, dished off a perfect through pass to Baker, who played a one-touch off her left foot and shot the ball to the far corner eluding the Huskies goalkeeper.
That goal trimmed Washington’s two-goal lead down to a single goal. Both of the Huskies (1-1-2) goals scored in the first half and came against Malia Vanisi, who was making her first start in goal this season for the Lobos.
The Lobos will remain on the road for their next two games. The first of those will be at Oregon State on Thursday, September 5. Kick-off for that non-conference tilt is scheduled for 8 p.m. (MT).
