ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico softball team totaled just three hits in Saturday’s Mountain West contest as the Lobos fell 11-0 in five innings to San Jose State.

Two of the hits came from seniors in outfielders Sydney Townes and D’Andra DeFlora, while junior shortstop Cameryn O’Grady extended her on-base streak to five games and her hitting streak to three games with a single in the first. DeFlora was the only Lobo to draw a walk. It was the second game of the series that DeFlora and O’Grady tallied hits.

However for the Lobos, it was the first time this season that a Lobo hitter didn’t record a strikeout.

San Jose State got out to an early lead for the second-straight game, scoring its first run following a leadoff walk and a double down the left field line that scored the runner from first. UNM almost got out of the inning with two outs on the next two batters, but a walk and a single to center made it 2-0.

The Spartans would add two more runs in the second on two hits and an error and made it 8-0 in the third on three hits, including two home runs.

UNM had an opportunity to break into the scoring column in the second following a leadoff walk by DeFlora, a passed ball that moved the senior to second and a grounder to second that put her on third. A line out to third produced the third out to strand DeFlora.

SJSU plated three final runs in the fifth for the final score.

Left-handed pitcher Kiana Spencer started in the circle and went 2.0 innings before being replaced by Bailey Klitzke. Spencer was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits. Klitzke recorded two strikeouts in relief, the only strikeouts of the game for either team. The junior threw 70 pitches against 18 batters faced in 3.0 innings.

UNM concludes its home schedule on Sunday morning with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. The game will also mark Senior Day for DeFlora, Townes, Kasey Halleen, Aleyah Wilbon and Monica Salas.
