IRVING, Texas —  Former Lobo goalkeeper Jason Beaulieu of The University of New Mexico men’s soccer team was named by Conference USA as the 2017-18 Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Thursday. Beaulieu graduated from UNM in December and signed a homegrown contract with the Montreal Impact of the MLS.

Official Conference USA Release

Following the conclusion of each school year, Conference USA announces one Scholar-Athlete of the Year from each sport it sponsors, Beaulieu nabbed the award above all other men’s soccer players in the league, earning New Mexico, a C-USA affiliate, a spot on the prestigious list.

The C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport, determined by a vote of the league’s 14 faculty athletics representatives (FARs). The award is based on achievement (GPA), athletic achievement and service.

Beaulieu was a highly-decorated Lobo that spent all four years wearing the Cherry and Silver, finishing second in Lobo program history in career appearances with 69. He also finished third in UNM history in career shutouts with 22, fourth in career saves with 244, and fifth in history in career wins with 34.

He also ranks fifth in career goals against average (0.90) and boasts the fifth-longest consecutive scoreless streak in UNM history at 484:58.

Not only was Beaulieu highly decorated on the field, earning a pair of C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors and a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team in 2017, but he also reached Academic All-American status as a senior as he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.

Beaulieu was also a multi-time CoSIDA Academic All-District, C-USA Academic Medal, Conference USA All-Academic and C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll honoree throughout his career and helped his team to multiple NSCAA Academic Team Awards in his time as a Lobo.
