Women's Golf Signs Four Players to NLI

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s golf coaches Jill Trujillo and Britney Choy are excited to announce four new talents that have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to play for the Lobos next season. The four players come from near and far, three of which are international from France, Sweden and Thailand, one is from Colorado.

“There is a lot of depth in our 2019 incoming freshman class,” head coach Jill Trujillo said. “They are all great students and have an extensive junior golf tournament résumé with experience all over the globe. We haven’t had four freshmen since 2013 and I think it will really help raise everyone’s competitive juices.”

Chloe Lauer | St. Germain, France
Lauer joins the Lobos from St. Germain, France where she has seen great success in her golf career including a first-place victory at the French Championship in the 15-16-year-old division in 2017. She was the runner up in the same competition in 2018 (17-18-year-old division) and she saw a top-10 finish at the Saint Germain Grand Prix. Additionally, Lauer finished in the top 40 at the French International Rothschild Trophy.

Trujillo on Lauer: “Chloe has an incredible drive to win and has proven her place as one of France’s best juniors,” Trujillo said. “Her love for the game is very apparent and her leadership qualities will benefit our team greatly.”

Lauer on why she chose UNM: “New Mexico is just the perfect fit for me.  When I took my official visit I connected with the team and coaches right away.  The weather and golf facilities are just amazing! I also love the fact that they’ve had many success with other French golfers in the recent years.”

Lauren Lehigh | Loveland, Colo.
Lehigh comes to UNM from Loveland, Colo. where she attends Loveland High School and has earned herself expansive accolades. In 2018, Lehigh was named the 2018 Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado Player of The Year after posting three wins, seven runner-ups and three third-place finishes on the season. She was one of 12 girls worldwide to be named to the 2018 Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-American team by the AJGA and won the 2018 Colorado Hall of Fame “Future Famers” award. Lehigh also took first place at the 2018 Colorado Jr. Girls Match Play and 13th place at the 2018 Girls Junior Americas Cup. 

Trujillo on Lehigh: “Lauren has champion following her name almost everywhere you look. She loves to win and her competitive nature will bring her great success,” Trujillo said. “The Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado’s 2018 Player of the year is also a high-achieving student selected by the AJGA as a Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-American. Only 12 girls worldwide are on this elite list and we’re excited to have her as a Lobo!”

Lehigh on why she chose UNM:  “The Lobos play a lot of competitive tournaments and they play against the top ranked teams in the NCAA. They’re right up there with all of them. The coaches were great. They were very accommodating and very much into how I play my game. I love how they coached their girls.”

Alice Rindestig | Gavle, Sweden
A stand-out talent who has seen great success so far in her golf career, Rindestig comes to UNM out of Galve, Sweden where she will graduate from high school in the spring of 2019. Among her top performances, Rindestig holds a second-place finish at the Teen Tour at Kungsangen GC and a third-place finish at the Swedish Junior Classic at Golf Uppsala. She also clinched fourth place in the national final of 2018 Swedish Junior Team National Championship.

Trujillo on Rindestig: “Alice has a lot of tournament experience on Sweden’s junior tour, she can definitely shoot low numbers and her hard-working attitude will spill over to her teammates,” Trujillo said. “She was open and free from our first meeting and is very determined to be the best.” 

Rindestig on why she chose UNM: “I connected with Jill and Britney right away and I knew that this was the team for me. I know that I will find the academic level of UNM to match my expectations, and that I will fit right in among the other Lobos. I can’t wait to become a Lobo!”

Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana | Bangkok, Thailand
Lertsadwattana joins the Lobos from Bangkok, Thailand where she has been a stand-out golf talent. She has represented her home country of Thailand in multiple events hosted in the United States and has seen great success in tournament play. Some of her top finishes include a fourth place finish at the FCG Callaway Junior World Championship (tied) and a fifth-place finish at the 2018 Singha Junior Golf Championship. Lertsadwattana also clinched sixth place at the Malaysia Ladies Open Championship. 

Trujillo on Lertsadwattana: “Nepat (Jenny) is one of the top girls in Thailand’s tremendous junior golf program. She was chosen to play in a few events in the U.S. this past summer, which is not easy to achieve,” Trujillo said. “She is a very consistent player who can shoot low numbers, we’re looking forward to adding her to our roster.”

Lertsadwattana on why she chose UNM: “I am very excited to join the University of New Mexico women’s golf team. Coach Jill, coach Britney and the rest of the players have welcomed me to their team. The sport facilities are fantastic as well as the academic support for student-athletes. I feel proud and thankful to be given this opportunity.”
