Leadership Council Named for 2016 Season

ALBUQERQUE, N.M. — Head coach Bob Davie has announced the 10-man Leadership Council for the 2016 season.  Along with previously announced captains Dakota Cox, Daniel Henry, Austin Apodaca and Lamar Jordan, six other players will make up the council.  Those players are seniors Garrett Adcock, Nik D’Avanzo, Cole Gautsche, Reno Henderson and Donnie White, and junior Jake Rothschiller.

Much like the captains, the members of the Leadership Council were voted there by their teammates.

As members of the Lobo Football Leadership Council, the 10-man group will give input on various issues and help represent the program.  The council members also serve as mentors for many of the younger players on the team.

For Adcock, the only second-year graduate school law student in the FBS, it’s another honor after being named to the All-State Good Works Team and Wuerffel Watch Lists in the Summer.  He has seen action in 26 games in his career and is a three-time Mountain West All-Academic honoree.

D’Avanzo was named to the preseason All- Mountain West first team after posting 54 tackles including 8.5 for loss during his junior campaign.  He was tied for fourth on the team in tackles.

Donnie White is a three-year starter who has also been crucial to the Lobos defensive improvement.  He also is a two-time Mountain West All-Academic selection.

Henderson, a JC transfer, has been a starter for two years, helping anchor an offensive line that led the Lobos to top-10 national finishes in rushing in 2014 and 2015, including a school-record tying 42 rushing touchdowns a year ago.

Cole Gautsche, from Rio Rancho, is making the switch to tight end this season after starting nearly 20 games in his career at quarterback.  He is currently 18th in school history in rushing, and needs 141 yards to become the 15th player in to break 2,000 career yards.

Jake Rothschiller was a walk-on last season who started three games and earned a scholarship over the Summer. With Lobo season ticket packages starting as low as $96, Lobo fans will have access to all six regular season home games, including match ups against Mountain West rivals Wyoming, Nevada and Boise State, as well as the special Thursday night season opener on September 1 versus South Dakota.
